We’re out and about talking to younger people

New Zealand Blood Service is responsible for ensuring a constant supply of blood and blood products; this starts with talking to younger people about donating blood.

Last month we ran a campaign in Otago where university students learnt more about donating blood and the benefits of what that means for many Kiwis who need it. Our campaign ran for four weeks and we attended a two-day event at O’Week in Tent City which helped us fill 95% of appointments for our University mobile drive the following week – amazing results. Students we talked to said they really enjoyed visiting our tent and having an opportunity to ask questions about the donation process including gaining a better understanding of what some of the barriers might be to donating. And, when we asked our team on the ground what their favourite part of the O’Week event was, they responded by saying ‘being able to dress up and interact with the students.’ Remember, one donation of blood can save up to three lives. Do you know a young person who you can encourage to help?
