David Chamberlain - Board Chair

David is a Principal at Melville Jessup Weaver (MJW), a leading firm of consulting actuaries in New Zealand. Prior to MJW, David was Head of Insurance at Kiwibank where he led the transformation and expansion of Kiwi Insurance Limited. He has over 25 years commercial experience in the financial services sector and has experience both as an Executive and as a Director.

Prior to joining Kiwibank in 2010, David worked as an independent consulting actuary for over 10 years. He has been an NZBS Board Member for 11 years, taking over the Board Chairman role in August 2011. As a consultant, David has advised a wide variety of clients on a wide variety of topics from strategy and investment through to financial compliance.

David has a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University in Sydney, is a Fellow of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries, Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. He is currently also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand.

Dr Jackie Blue - Deputy Chair

Dr Jackie is a former medical practitioner who pioneered the role of Breast Physicians in the late 1990’s. In 2005, she was elected as a List Member of Parliament and was in this role until June 2013 when she joined the Human Rights Commission.

Throughout her time in Parliament, Jackie was a member of the Health Select Committee and three other cross-party committees, all of which had a strong focus on human rights.

Over her five-year term at the New Zealand Human Rights Commission, Jackie held the portfolios of Equal Employment Opportunities, Women’s Rights and LGBTI. On completing her term at the Human Rights Commission late 2018, Jackie was appointed to the New Zealand Blood Service as Deputy Chair.

Dr Bartrum Baker

Bartrum is a Consultant Haematologist and Clinical Director of the Regional Cancer Treatment Service at Palmerston North Hospital. He is an active and experienced committee member with groups including Leukaemia and Blood Foundation Medical, NZ Leukaemia Study Group and Scientific Committee and NZ Bone Marrow Transplant Study Group.

Bartrum is a member of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand and the American Society of Hematology, and is registered with the New Zealand Medical Council as a specialist in Internal Medicine and in Pathology (Haematology).

Bartrum has a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with distinction from the University of Otago, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Ray Lind

Ray has many years’ experience in corporate management within the health sector and a proven track record in results-driven leadership. His most recent role was a seven-year tenure as CEO for Careerforce, an Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for the health, mental health, youth work, disability, social services and cleaning sectors. Prior to this, Ray was COO for one of New Zealand's largest providers of home care, mental health and addictions and residential disability support services as well as COO for Hawke’s Bay District Health Board. Ray has proudly dedicated his career to contributing to the improvement of population health outcomes and joins New Zealand Blood Service to continue doing so.

Dr Paula Martin

Dr Paula Martin has over 25 years’ experience in public policy, strategy and research as a senior manager, consultant and advisor. She has worked for a range of organisations including the Ministries of Health, Social Development and Defence, the New Zealand Treasury, Te Puni Kokiri, the Accident Compensation Corporation, Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner and several District Health Boards.

In 2018, she was a senior member of the Secretariat supporting the Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction. She is currently Assistant Auditor-General, Strategy and Communications at the Office of the Auditor General.

Paula is also a member of the Institute of Directors and holds a BA (Hons) in Psychology, an MA (Applied) in Social Science Research and a PhD in Public Policy from Victoria University).

Edie Moke

Edie is an independent director with more than 20 years of governance experience with a variety of organisations related to health services, health funding, broadcasting, audio-visual archiving, regional development, philanthropy and kaupapa Maori community services delivery. Her business experience commenced as an Accountant with the Canterbury Area Health Board, and Healthlink South Ltd. She also worked for Ernst & Young as a Principal consultant, and established the Maori health and Maori business development team. Edie holds a DBS in accounting, a BBS in management and information systems management, a PG Diploma in business administration, and an MBS in health service management. She has been a member of the NZ Institute of Management and Leadership for more than 25 years, and is a Chartered member of the Institute of Directors NZ.

Fiona Pimm

Fiona is an independent consultant and director with over thirty years’ experience in the health sector and extensive governance experience. Fiona was previously General Manager of Primary & Community Services and Māori Health at South Canterbury District Health Board.

Fiona has a PG Diploma in Public Health and MBA from Massey University. She is on the NZ Medical Council Advisory and Health & Disability Commission Consumer Advisory committees and is a member of the Institute of Directors.
