Blood and organ donors give Jack hope

New Zealand Navy fitness instructor Jack required a heart transplant after being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle which means ventricles can't pump blood as well as a healthy heart.

As part of his treatment, the 26-year-old needed blood products to keep him alive.

“There are a lot of people I don’t know who have given me this chance to live and I couldn’t be more thankful enough for that,” says Jack.

“Blood donors, your decision impacts more than just one person. I know personally I’m super grateful, my family is super grateful that I’m still here – it’s not just the person whose life you’re saving. It’s bigger than that.”

He shares his story below.
