Virtual awards for milestone donations on smartphone app

The New Zealand Blood Service mobile smartphone app was launched in 2016, and it has become a valuable tool for our donors to help manage their donations.  We’re very excited to now have over 33,000 active users every month logging into the app to book appointments. In fact, up to 70% of all donation appointment are booked through the mobile app.

Through the app, donors have access to their donor profile and information including blood type, donation history and an electronic donor card.  They can also get notified when they are eligible to donate, for upcoming mobile drives, appointment reminders, and when their blood has been used.  To further improve the donor experience, and help celebrate our donor achievements, we have recently launched a new feature of the app - Donation Milestone Badges.

This gamification feature will unlock digital badges when donors reach specific donation milestones, and they can then share their achievements with their friends and family on social media using milestone selfie frames. They will also be able to see their milestone badges when they log on through the website portal.

Milestone badges is just another way we recognise and celebrate the time and dedication it takes our generous blood donors to reach different milestone. It is also a unique way we can continue to foster donation loyalty and retain our donors.
