Amazing Story

Anthea's reasons for donating

Hi!
I'm Anthea, I started donating blood when I was about 19 years old. My Grandmother was ill in hospital and she needed a blood transfusion. I remember thinking how awesome that a donor took the time out of their day to give blood, so I booked an appointment with NZ Blood, they had a mobile unit at my work lucky enough. At first I was scared of the fact that a big needle is going in my arm but it does not hurt AT ALL, and I'm not just saying that! The nurses and staff are highly trained and they know where to aim.

I felt I needed to do more so I decided to check out Plasma donation. You can donate every 2 weeks, it does take a bit longer. There are people that need blood and blood products so I am very happy that I can be a regular donor, after all my body produces more so why not?!

One of the happiest moments in my life was getting that notification that my blood was used to help save a life!! Maybe it went to someone else's Grandmother or it could have gone to a newborn baby.

All the nurses and staff are very lovely and make you feel at ease, I highly praise them all.
Happy donating!!!!! :)
