Amazing Story
Time out of the office to save a life
Today is donation number 3 for Melva, who is at today's Auckland Hospital mobile blood drive with her colleagues from MYOB, an accounting software company. She is joining her team every three months; they get a New Zealand Blood Service shuttle bus, which provides a door-to-door service.
Melva's not worried about the needle at all: 'I've got no fear, it's just a prick.'
She first came along to give blood to find out her blood type - A+. Since then she's encouraged her best friend and her friend's brother to sign up too, who were both also interested in discovering their own blood types.
Her bosses are understanding, Melva explains, so it's no problem taking a little time out of the office to save a life.
