Amazing Story
Koro's Story: "B Positive!"
Koro became a blood donor in 1994 and has donated nearly 200 times since then. Koro is pictured here with New Zealand Blood Service qualified Donor Technician Riley Te Moni.
Koro says that although it can be a bit uncomfortable, it's well worth it. "I donate for others as their quality of life depends on it."
Not content with saving up to 600 people's lives, Koro also signed up to the New Zealand Bone Marrow Donor Registry in 1999.
Waikato Apheresis Coordinator, Morag Gurnsey, says that Koro's blood type is B Positive, "like his attitude!".
He enjoys the experience of donating, meeting other donors and staff.
“It could be my wife, son or daughter whose quality of life depends on plasma donations” he adds.
If you are male and your ancestors were Maori, Pacific Island, or any other New Zealand ethnic minority, consider joining the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Find out more at http://www.bonemarrow.org.nz/
