A family member was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I knew the surgery required blood transfusions. It made me remember how I'd tried to give blood at 19 but had just come back from Asia and had had malaria vaccinations. Now I'm 44, I thought it was either get a tattoo and admit to being middle aged, or try to give back. I’ve just given my third donation. My blood type is the same as 5% of the population. Only 97 more to get to a hundred and on the leader board.
