Where do I find the app?
You can find the App on the Apple App Store or on Google Play for android phones.
Try searching for it using “NZ Blood”.

Who is the app for?
The app is for New Zealand blood donors – plasma and whole blood donors only.
Platelet donors cannot use the app as all platelet donations need to be managed carefully by our Donor Centres.

What happens if I have the old app already?
You will need to delete the old app from your phone and upload the new one by downloading it from the App Store or Google Play. The old app will continue to work, however the new app is much more advanced so we recommend getting it!

what’s new on the app?
The app was developed to make booking appointments easier for donors and includes some new features:
• Access your digital donor card, so you no longer need to bring your physical donor card with you.
• See your blood type on the home page and your donation history.
• Search for locations using a map, location list or by using the search function.
• Check when you are next eligible to donate.
• Receive notifications when your blood is urgently needed, reminders for appointments, when the blood drive is in your area next and when your blood is used (for whole blood donors only).

I get a message saying “Record exists” my email is already verified and I can't Register for the app?
You may get this message if you already have an online appointment login already set up, or you have a login for the old app. If this is the case you do not need to Register for the app.

Please try "Login" with your online appointment system details.
If you cannot remember your password please use the password reset - using the email address that you have given us or used in the previous app or online system.

What if the app freezes and won’t load?
Try to restart the phone. Alternatively delete the app and re-install it.
If this doesn’t work please make a note of the type of phone (apple or android), time and date and email this (along with your donor details) through to info@nzblood.co.nz

What operating systems does the app work on?
The app requires iOS8+ or later, or Android 4.1+ or later to run.

How do I uninstall the app from my phone?
Apple – Hold down the app icon until it wiggles the click the x button on the app.
Android – Hold down the app and drag up to the bin.

How safe are my personal details? What if the app is hacked?
We take security and privacy very seriously here at NZBS, all of your information are treated as private and confidential (See our Privacy Policy here). This app has been developed using industry standard approaches to ensure your data is safe and secure.

If I lose my phone, should I contact my donor centre?
There is no need to contact us if you lose your phone. If anyone tries to use your donor card they will still need to verify other information not held on the app. Alternatively you can log in via our website and change your password (or call 0800 448 325 and ask for your password to be changed), which will force the app to be logged out on all of your devices.

Appointments

How do I book an appointment?
You will need to register on the app before you can book an appointment. Existing donors should use the same information that is on the NZBS database so we can retrieve your profile information on the app. If you’re not sure of what details we have for you please give us a call on 0800 448 325. If you already have a login with the old app, or the online website appointment system you can login using the same information.

I’m a platelet donor why can I not use the app?
Platelet appointments will still need to be managed through the local donor centre as platelets only last 7 days, so the appointments for these donations need to be managed very carefully. We are working on phase two of the app which will allow platelet donors to use all the functions except for managing their appointments.

Can I make multiple bookings?
Yes you can make multiple bookings on the app once logged in. However if you have existing appointments, you will only be able to book into dates for which you are eligible to donate, so in some cases you may need to cancel other appointments in order to change your dates.

Can I cancel/reschedule my appointments on the app?
Yes you can manage all your appointments via the app if you are a whole blood or plasma donor. This will update our system.

Can you see past appointments?
Yes you can view your donation history – from the Home Screen click on the Total Donations Icon.

Why can’t I click on the date? Why are the dates greyed out?
There are no appointment times available or you might not be eligible to donate. You may also have appointments in the system which means you need to cancel your current appointment in order to book into the greyed out dates.

What does the numbers in the hours mean and what if there are blank hours?
This tells you how many appointments are available during that hour and if blank, it means there aren’t any appointments available.

What if I don’t want to download the app or don’t have a smartphone, can I still book appointments via the website or by phone?
Yes you can still book appointments online on our website and via our 0800 number.

Can I get a reminder notification for my appointment?
Yes you will receive a notification the day before your appointment as long as your notifications are turned on.

Searching for a location

How do I find the closest place to me?
Apple - From the home screen click on the locations button down the bottom then on the arrow button this will zoom out to show you at least one mobile blood drive or blood donor centre (if you have your location services turned on).
Android - From the home screen click on the menu button top left then Our Locations and click on the arrow button this will zoom out to show you at least one mobile blood drive or blood donor centre (if you have your location services turned on).  Once in the Map area, you can also search for locations by using the list view or search icon.

Why can’t I click on a mobile blood drive?
If the mobile blood drive is greyed out either in the map view or details view it is because the date for that blood drive is not yet confirmed.

I can’t find a place to donate in my suburb, town or city?
Unfortunately we are not able to visit every suburb, town or city. Only locations where we visit are listed on the app.

Can I be notified when a blood drive is in my area?
If you are already a donor, we can notify you for one blood drive. Check under your profile on the app to see your default donation location. If you turn on notifications for “blood drive alert” you will be notified. If you wish to change your default donation location please call us on 0800 448 325. It will usually be the last place you donated.
