Christchurch Earthquake - UPDATE (7.09.10) | |

The Christchurch Blood Donor Centre will be open from 7-30 am tomorrow morning Wednesday the 8th of September. Only donors with pre-booked appointments will be able to donate blood this week. This is to assist us while we continue to assess our ability to provide a full blood donation service at the Christchurch Donor Centre. The Nelson Blood Donor Centre will also be open from tomorrow for donors with pre-booked appointments. To make or confirm an appointment please call 0800 GIVEBLOOD (0800 448 325). |

Following a review this morning the Christchurch Donor Centre will remain closed until further notice, until a seismic evaluation can be undertaken on the building to ensure it is completely safe. Blood stocks are currently looking good and NZBS will be moving product around the country as required, to ensure that all hospitals have the blood and blood products required for patients in need. If you would like to help by donating blood, please call 0800 GIVE BLOOD (0800 448 325) to make an appointment to donate. All Donor Centres except for Christchurch and Nelson are operating as usual, and Nelson opening hours will be determined following the evaluation in Christchurch (as the blood from Nelson is processed in Christchurch). Should the situation change, we will be calling donors directly to make an appointment to donate. |

The Christchurch Donor Centre and the Nelson Donor Centre will be closed on Monday 6th September to all donors. The Christchurch Donor Centre will be closed while we await a structural engineers report, to ensure that the building is safe for donors and staff. The Nelson Donor Centre will be closed until the Christchurch facilities are given the all clear as the blood collected in Nelson is processed at the Christchurch facilities. NZBS will be calling all donors with appointments for Monday the 6th September in Nelson and Christchurch to reschedule their appointments, so if you do have an appointment at one of these centres on Monday 6th September, please do not attend. Christchurch Earthquake - No extra blood donors required | |

Following from this mornings earthquake in Christchurch, the New Zealand Blood Service will be monitoring the requirements for blood for the region. Currently the blood stocks are at good levels so there is no urgent need for blood donors at this time. The New Zealand Blood Service Blood Bank and Donor Centre are intact. Updates will be posted regularly if anything changes on this website and the NZBS Facebook Page, and the Christchurch Centre will be open for donors with applointments on Monday as usual. |

New TV Commercial Aims to Recruit More Blood Donors | |

New Zealand Blood Service is launching a new advertising campaign to find new blood donors. The campaign includes a new TV Commercial supported by on-line and Adshel (bus shelter) advertising. |
