Emilia’s story
"My life would be totally different if Emilia wasn't here today"
38 weeks into her pregnancy Outi Malcolm, who had up until that point had a normal pregnancy, found out that her foetus had stopped moving in her womb. An emergency caesarean was ordered and she gave birth to Emilia in June 2005.
Emilia was found to be extremely anaemic and within 20 minutes of her birth, she had received three blood transfusions as her liver, kidney and lungs began to shut down. Emilia was in intensive care for 5 days and was under the care of the hospital paediatric unit for 1 year following her birth. Today Emilia lives a healthy normal life, thanks to the generosity of blood donors.
