New Zealand Blood Service was established by the Health Amendment Act 1998 to provide a comprehensive Blood Service to New Zealanders. Much of the early efforts of the NZBS have been devoted to the establishment of safe and effective systems for collection and manufacture of blood, blood components and blood products.
The publication of the NZBS Clinical Compendium recognises the wider responsibilities of the service in relation to the overall practice of transfusion medicine. The Compendium contains information relevant to the use of services and blood products provided by NZBS. This includes clinical policies and clinical guidelines.
